“Japan and Finland: Strengthening Economic Ties After President Stubb’s Visit to Japan.”

FJCC was honoured to host His Excellency Takashi Okada, Ambassador of Japan to Finland, for a discussion on the evolving economic and strategic ties between Japan and Finland. Building on the outcomes of President Stubb’s recent visit to Japan, the Ambassador emphasised the enduring partnership between our countries, framed since 2016 by a shared-values and mutual respect approach, and now updated for 2025 to reflect a changing global context. He outlined how cooperation is expanding to include security and defence, advanced technology, and environmental collaboration. Drawing examples from innovation in clean energy, joint defence projects, and recent Japanese investments in Finland, he illustrated the depth of current engagement. The Ambassador also noted the parallels between geopolitical challenges in Europe and East Asia, and reflected on political developments in Japan following the recent parliamentary elections. His address underscored the value of continued dialogue and collaboration between Finland and Japan in both governmental and business fields.
